Missing teeth can result in a loss of confidence. When you feel too self-conscious to smile, you can miss out on a lot in life — potential career opportunities and relationships. We offer an advanced, long-lasting and effective solution to your missing teeth dilemma: dental implants.
Benefits of Implants
While many tooth replacement options are available today such as bridges and dentures, dental implants have several advantages over these:
- Dental implants have a natural, lifelike appearance.
- The implant portion is made of titanium, which is a strong, biocompatible metal.
- Dental implants are secure and stable.
- Dental implants help preserve bone after tooth extraction, preventing facial shape changes.
- When taken care of, dental implants can last a very long time.
What Does the Process Involve?
The first step is to have our dentists evaluate your current situation with missing tooth/teeth so that we are certain dental implants are a viable option. A titanium implant is put into the jawbone, then allowed to heal. Later, you’ll return to have the implant topped with either a crown or bridge, and upper, lower or complete denture, depending on your particular situation. It may take as little as three visits to complete the process of receiving an implant.
Who is a candidate for a dental implant?
If you are missing one tooth or want to replace multiple teeth but don’t want to have a denture or bridge, dental implants may be the ideal solution for you. The treatment is tailored to each individual’s needs.
There can be a contraindication with certain medications. If you smoke, we may encourage you to take a break from your habit to receive the implant and allow for healing.
Where do you source the materials used?
Our practice uses only local laboratories and Australian-made materials. We don’t send anything overseas.
Is the procedure painful?
If you required bone to be transplanted before the placement of the implant, swelling and discomfort may occur as they would with a routine tooth extraction. Local anaesthesia is used to keep you comfortable during the procedure, and oral sedatives are also available if needed. Often, our patients feel surprised at how easy it is to get an implant.
What can I expect after receiving a dental implant?
For 2-7 days, you may experience some soreness around the implant site. Our dentists can prescribe antibiotics after your procedure if needed.
When the process is completed, you’ll have a follow-up appointment to ensure that your dental implant fits seamlessly into your mouth.
